Nordhagen secures fourth place overall with fifth place in tough final stage of the Tour de Romandie
# Jørgen Nordhagen Concludes Tour de Romandie with Stellar Fourth Place Overall
In an exhilarating finish to the Tour de Romandie, Jørgen Nordhagen has secured an impressive fourth place overall, culminating his performance with a strong fifth-place finish in the challenging final stage towards Leysin. As competitors tackled the fourteen-kilometer ascent, tension filled the air, especially for Nordhagen, who began the day just seven seconds behind third-place Lenny Martinez.
A breakaway group of eight riders initiated the final climb, hoping to maintain their small advantage. However, the peloton quickly caught them one by one. Nordhagen stood out in this elite group, showcasing his talent and tenacity. With under three kilometers remaining, Tadej Pogačar and Florian Lipowitz launched a decisive attack, quickly widening the gap.
Amidst the tension, Nordhagen accelerated in a bid to pressure Martinez but found his efforts fruitless as his French rival held firm. Ultimately, Nordhagen crossed the finish line in fifth, solidifying his fourth place in the overall classification of this WorldTour stage race.
After the event, Nordhagen reflected on his week in Switzerland, stating, “The past week has given me a lot of confidence for the future. This race has shown that I have what it takes to compete with the very best in the world.” He acknowledged the challenges of the final climb, noting its irregular pace: “I perform better in long, steady efforts. The final meters were very steep, and that’s where I just came up short to make a difference.”
Overall, the Tour de Romandie served as an excellent platform for the young Norwegian, reinforcing his potential in the competitive cycling arena.
