Sadnik attacks and finishes fifth at the Festival Elsy Jacobs

# Katharina Sadnik Shines with Fifth Place Finish at Festival Elsy Jacobs

The Festival Elsy Jacobs wrapped up with an exciting 120-kilometer race starting and finishing in Cessange. Chaos hit the peloton early on due to a crash that involved several riders, including Katharina Sadnik of Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women. Fortunately, she managed to quickly rejoin the main group.

With approximately 55 kilometers remaining, Sadnik made a decisive move alongside seven other riders, forming a breakaway that significantly stretched their lead over the peloton. This group of eight positioned themselves as serious contenders for the victory.

Demonstrating resilience and tactical expertise, Sadnik effectively responded to all attacks from her breakaway companions and launched a bold, all-or-nothing sprint in the final kilometer. Despite opening a small gap, she was ultimately caught just before the finish line, but still managed to secure a commendable fifth-place finish, while Erin Boothman claimed the victory.

Post-race, Sadnik was taken for further examination at the hospital due to her earlier crash. Reflecting on her performance, she stated, “Halfway through the race, we started attacking as a team, and eventually I made it into the right breakaway. We only started with four riders, but we worked well together. In the break, we found each other and built a strong advantage. I decided to give it everything in the final kilometer, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough for the win. I’m satisfied with this performance, although there are definitely things I can learn from. As a team, we can look back on an excellent weekend in Luxembourg.”

Sadnik’s efforts contributed significantly not only to her own performance but also to the success of Team Visma throughout the event.
