Geoffrey Soupe Surprises with Stage 7 Win at Vuelta a Espana

A thrilling and chaotic finish to Stage 6 of the 2023 Vuelta a Espana saw Geoffrey Soupe of TotalEnergies take a surprise win in a bunch sprint. The 35-year-old Frenchman launched a late attack in the final few kilometers on the Costa Blanca to beat Orluis Aular of Caja Rural – Seguros RGA to the line. Edward Theuns from Trek-Lidl finished third.

Kaden Groves, the sprint leader of Alpecin-Deceuninck, finished fifth in the race, closely behind Sebastian Molano of UAE Team Emirates. The race saw a massive bunch of riders swarming to the finish line, creating an exciting and unpredictable sprint.

Despite a crash with around 5km to go, Sepp Kuss of Jumbo-Visma managed to recover and finish safely in the bunch sprint. However, Thymen Arensman of Ineos Grenadiers was not able to finish the race after a hard fall in the late crash.

The general classification remained unchanged after Stage 7. Lenny Martinez of Groupama-FDJ continued to hold the overall lead with an 8-second advantage over stage 6 winner Sepp Kuss. Marc Soler of UAE Team Emirates was in third place, trailing by 51 seconds.

Stage 6 showcased the unpredictable nature of the Vuelta a Espana, with unexpected winners and crashes shaping the outcome of the race. The remaining stages promise more excitement and surprises as the cyclists continue their battle for the coveted title.
