European Time Trial Junior Championships: Titles Won by Italy, Denmark, Britain, and Belgium

Italy’s Federica Venturelli, Denmark’s Albert Philipsen, Britain’s Zoe Backstedt, and Belgium’s Alex Segaert emerged as winners in their respective categories at the European Cycling Championships in Drenthe.

Venturelli secured the gold in the junior women’s time trial, surpassing Dutch champion Knaven in the closing stages. Reflecting on her win, Venturelli said, “Last year I finished fourth within a sigh of a medal…so I had to start well, but at the same time have something to spare.”

In the junior men’s time trial, Philipsen claimed the European title. Having prioritized this championship over others, Philipsen’s dedication paid off. “I spent a lot of time on the time trial bike. Nice to see that this is paying off so much here,” he shared.

Backstedt dominated the women’s time trial, leaving German world champion Antonia Niedermaier far behind. The British cyclist was satisfied with her performance, saying, “For me, this European Championship is already a success, although as a team we definitely have ambitions at VAM Mountain.”

Segaert continued his winning streak by clinching the European Time Trial Championship for novice men. This marked his third consecutive European title in the event. Reflecting on his achievement, Segaert said, “With that, I confirm my status as a strong time trialist in this category.”

The European Cycling Championships will continue with road races in Drenthe, where these talented cyclists will aim to secure further victories for their respective countries.
