Egan Bernal Shows Grit to Achieve Second Place at O Gran Camino
Egan Bernal demonstrated exceptional determination and resilience as he sprinted to second place on day two of O Gran Camino in brutal wet and freezing conditions. The lead group faced a challenging undulating test that ultimately split apart on the final climb. Bernal was supported effectively by his teammates and reacted swiftly to defending champion Jonas Vingegaard’s initial acceleration.
A lead group of four riders emerged, with Bernal being the only one able to keep up with Vingegaard before the Dane launched a decisive attack towards victory. Bernal’s sprinting skills allowed him to secure second place by outpacing Jefferson Cepeda at the finish line, moving him into second place overall, just 28 seconds behind Vingegaard.
As the race approached the final climb, Jonathan Castroviejo, Omar Fraile, and Josh Tarling worked together to position Bernal prominently. Unfortunately, Tarling’s opportunity to showcase his yellow jersey, earned from Thursday’s stage win, was hindered by the harsh cold temperatures. Despite facing challenges, Ethan Hayter persevered through a mid-race crash, while Michal Kwiatkowski was unable to continue, contributing to a tough day for the entire peloton.
