Steven Kruijswijk Excited to Make Return to Racing in Tour of Britain
“After a challenging recovery period, I’m doing well and ready for this race,” says Steven Kruijswijk, Dutch cyclist and member of Team Jumbo-Visma. Kruijswijk suffered injuries to his collarbone and pelvis in June, forcing him to miss the Tour and the Vuelta. However, with the support of his family and diligent training, he has managed to get back on his bike and is eager to compete again.
Kruijswijk expressed his enthusiasm for wearing a cycling jersey again, stating, “It’s great that it’s still possible this season. I want to compete in as many races as possible for the remainder of the season.” This year’s Tour of Britain, consisting of eight stages, provides an opportunity for Kruijswijk to regain his race rhythm and contribute to his team’s success.
The Dutch climber has set his sights on winning sprint stages with Olav Kooij, while also acknowledging the chances of his teammate Wout van Aert. Kruijswijk emphasized the importance of finishing at the front every day to secure an excellent final classification.
Reflecting on his goals for the Tour of Britain, Kruijswijk said, “I must get back into the race rhythm after three months without a race. I hope to get it back in the coming week. The intention is to use this race to get stronger and be important to the team. Above all, I want to enjoy being back in the race.”
In addition to the Tour of Britain, Team Jumbo-Visma will also be competing in the Bretagne Classic, or the GP Plouay. The Sports Director, Robert Wagner, anticipates a tough race with challenging altitudes and a distance of almost 260 kilometers. Tiesj Benoot and Christophe Laporte will lead the team, aiming for victory.
The line-up for Team Jumbo-Visma in the Tour of Britain includes Steven Kruijswijk, Wout van Aert, Olav Kooij, Nathan van Hooydonck, Edoardo Affini, and Jos van Emden. Tiesj Benoot, Christophe Laporte, Koen Bouwman, Mick van Dijke, Tim van Dijke, Sam Oomen, and Tosh van der Sande will represent the team in the Bretagne Classic.
With Kruijswijk’s return to racing and Team Jumbo-Visma’s competitive line-up, cycling fans can look forward to an exciting Tour of Britain and Bretagne Classic.
