IPT Cyclists Tom van Asbroeck and Derek Gee Secure Top-10 Finishes at Brussels Cycling Classic

Tom van Asbroeck and Derek Gee of IPT put on an impressive performance at the Brussels Cycling Classic, securing top-10 finishes in a race filled with excitement and challenges. Although van Asbroeck claimed a respectable eighth place and Gee rounded out the top 10, both cyclists felt they could have achieved better results.

In his post-race interview, van Asbroeck expressed his desire for a better outcome but commended the team’s efforts and teamwork, stating: “We did a great race as a team, we were active, and the team is going very strong, so we can’t complain about that, but the results aren’t quite there yet considering how hard we worked. I’m sure in the next weeks we will get some good results for sure, if we keep racing like this.”

On the other hand, Gee was content with his performance and took a risk by attacking with two kilometers left in the race. He also played a crucial role in leading out van Asbroeck during the final sprint. Reflecting on the race, Gee said, “Coming off the Giro I was looking forward to seeing how my legs would be. I’m really happy with how I felt in the race and the team was super active, so it was an awesome atmosphere to step into. We were hoping for a little more in the final, but I think we can be happy with what the result shows for the coming races.”

Director Dirk Demol expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall performance and highlighted the riders’ strong condition and mentality. However, he believed that if luck had been on their side, the team could have achieved even better results. Demol explained, “8th and 10th is a nice result, but we definitely deserved better… We just need to have a little more luck… We’re working so well as a team, I’m optimistic for the races in the coming weeks.”

Despite their mixed feelings about the results, the IPT cyclists remain determined and optimistic, eager to continue their strong performances and secure better outcomes in upcoming races.
