Belgian cyclist Brent Van Moer has signed a contract extension with Lotto Soudal, ensuring that he will remain with the team until the end of 2023. The announcement comes after Van Moer’s victory in the opening stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. Despite interest from other teams, the 23-year-old rider was eager to continue his journey with Lotto Soudal.
“I received a nice offer and didn’t need much time to think about it, despite several other teams being interested,” says Van Moer. “I feel really good within the team, have an excellent relationship with all of my teammates and also with the team staff. I love to be on the races with this group. And maybe even more important, at Lotto Soudal I get the chance to develop into a really strong rider. I am really ambitious.”
Van Moer’s achievements include winning the silver medal at the U23 time trial world championships in 2018. He is keen on further improving his performance in time trials and exploring his abilities in different race formats, such as shorter stage races and Classics. His goal for next year is to fight for victory at the semi-classics.
According to Lotto Soudal General Manager John Lelangue, Van Moer is an exemplary rider who continues to progress and develop within the team. “Brent is the perfect example of a rider who is trained at Lotto Soudal and keeps making progress. Into a winner. And there are also others like Brent in the team. And we keep on following the road we’ve chosen. The young guys are our future. We absolutely believe in Brent and vice versa.”
Van Moer is determined to contribute to the team’s success and work for his teammates. “Nothing beats the feeling of giving it all for a winner like Caleb Ewan. Winning, that is why we became professional athletes in the first place.”
With his contract extension, Brent Van Moer solidifies his position as a promising young talent at Lotto Soudal and looks forward to further growth and success in the coming years.
