In a thrilling race at Gent-Wevelgem, Team Visma | Lease a Bike tackled the challenging 171-kilometer route without Fem van Empel, demonstrating their competitive spirit and tenacity. Despite the absence of van Empel, the team put on an admirable performance, with multiple riders showcasing their skills throughout the race.
At the outset, Nooijen made a bold move with a breakaway group, gaining a significant lead that was ultimately neutralized by the peloton. The race saw intense moments, including a split caused by Lotte Kopecky on the Kemmelberg climb and a subsequent bunch sprint to the finish line.

Rider Linda Riedmann shared her thoughts on the race, acknowledging the tough competition and highlighting the team’s strategic approach, saying, “When Sophie and I returned to the front group, we had agreed that Sophie would respond to the attacks and I would focus on the sprint. That went pretty well.” Riedmann’s twelfth-place finish was a testament to the team’s collective effort and determination.
The race culminated with Lorena Wiebes claiming victory in the sprint, underscoring the fierce competition at Gent-Wevelgem.
