Tour of the Alps: Miguel Angel Lopez Wins at Grossglockner

Astana Qazaqstan Team’s Miguel Angel Lopez claimed victory at the Tour of the Alps stage atop Grossglockner in Kals am Grossglockner. Lopez made a powerful move in the final kilometers, catching the only remaining rider from the breakaway and then going solo to secure his first win of the season.

“It is a good day for me, but also for the whole team. We were looking for this success and now we get the confidence and motivation for the next goals,” said Miguel Angel Lopez. He also dedicated the win to his second child and paid tribute to former champion Michele Scarponi.

Astana Qazaqstan Team had a strong presence throughout the race, with David De La Cruz, Fabio Felline, and Sebastian Henao making bold moves. While the breakaway attempts didn’t result in a stage win, it set the stage for Miguel Angel Lopez’s triumphant performance.

“We all are really happy with this long-awaited victory, and it brings us some good motivation and inspiration ahead of the Giro d’Italia,” said Alexandr Shefer, Sports Director of Astana Qazaqstan Team.
