Wout van Aert Secures Victory in Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne
After an intense race that saw a small leading group emerge, Wout van Aert from Team Visma | Lease a Bike showcased his strength as he sprinted to victory at the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne. Speaking about the race, Van Aert mentioned, “The logical tactic for us was to make the race as hard as possible,” highlighting the high pace that led to the peloton breaking into several pieces.
Van Aert’s impressive performance included a strategic move during the climb of Mont Saint-Laurent, where he, along with Wellens and Lazkano, pushed towards the finish line in Kuurne. Reflecting on his success, Van Aert expressed, “This was a perfect opening weekend…once again we were at the start with a strong team, so there was some pressure. I’m very proud that it worked out.”
While commenting on the tough competition, Van Aert stated, “Only the strongest riders remained in front there. So with Wellens and Lazkano I had found the perfect companions.” His sports director, Grischa Niermann, also acknowledged the team’s success, stating, “For the second year in a row we managed to win both classics in the opening weekend, which is special…We form a tight group that would do anything for each other.”
The race results saw Van Aert securing the top position, followed by Tim Wellens from UAE Team Emirates and Oier Lazkano from Movistar Team. The Team Visma | Lease a Bike riders also put up a strong performance, with Christophe Laporte, Dylan van Baarle, and Matteo Jorgenson finishing closely behind. Jan Tratnik finished in 112th place, while Tiesj Benoot did not finish the race.
Van Aert’s dominance in the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne demonstrates his exceptional form and sets a strong tone for the upcoming races in the cycling calendar. The victory adds to his successful track record, making him a force to be reckoned with in the cycling world.
