SEGAERT TAKES VICTORY AT GP DE DENAIN
# Alec Segaert Triumphs at Grand Prix de Denain
Alec Segaert delivered an impressive performance at the Grand Prix de Denain, securing a strong victory for Bahrain Victorious in one of the early-season’s key cobbled races. Following a near-success at Nokere Koerse just a day prior, where he made a bold move in the final moments but was ultimately caught, Segaert ensured his efforts paid off this time in Denain.
The Belgian rider became part of a pivotal breakaway with just under 50 kilometers remaining, seizing the moment during a challenging segment of the course. Demonstrating remarkable endurance and strategy, Segaert launched a decisive solo effort in the closing kilometers, managing to fend off his competitors and cross the finish line first.
Milan Menten from LOTTO INTERMARCHE claimed second place, trailing just 2 seconds behind, while Anthony Turgis from TOTAL ENERGIES rounded out the podium.
Reflecting on his victory, Segaert expressed satisfaction with the team’s approach, stating, “This was a perfect day with the team. Everybody knew what to do. Yesterday we had a really strong performance and came close, so it’s even nicer that it worked out today. I had a great day and really wanted to finish it off after yesterday. In the final I played it well.”
He continued, “I was with Hagenes, who was really strong, but I think I made the right decisions. I’m really happy with this win, for myself and for the team.”
The triumph was further praised by Bahrain Victorious Sports Director Nikolas Maes, who noted the strategic planning leading up to the race. “We had in mind to try something with Alec for the final, and he made his move with around 45 kilometres to go. It was early, but it was on one of the hardest parts of the course, and he had a strong rider with him, Hagenes. In the final, he stayed calm, chose the right moment and went all-in to the finish.”
Maes added, “Yesterday things didn’t go his way, but today everything came together, so it’s a great reward for his work.”
Segaert’s victory highlights both his potential and the collective strength of the Bahrain Victorious team as they head into the rest of the season.
