September 15, 2023 – 17:49 GMT+2
After a challenging day at the Vuelta, Remco Evenepoel is hopeful for a chance to shine in tomorrow’s stage. Despite feeling tired from the last two days, Evenepoel remains focused on the task at hand.
Reflecting on today’s race, Evenepoel commented on the windy conditions that added to the stress of the peloton. “It was a bit annoying with the wind coming from the side, so the peloton was always a bit stressed out,” he said. However, he described the day as quiet and an opportunity to recover from the previous day’s efforts.
Evenepoel also mentioned a strange situation he witnessed, where teammate Casper Pedersen dropped back during the race. “I thought he was involved in the crash but apparently not, so it was a bit of a strange situation. He probably tried to do his best and he will get another chance on Sunday.”
With tomorrow’s stage in mind, Evenepoel expressed his hope for a chance to perform well. However, he acknowledged that a lot would depend on the start of the race and his ability to recover overnight. “Hopefully I have a chance tomorrow. It depends on how the start will be. We’ll see because today I felt quite tired from the last two days. I hope I can recover well over the night and we’ll see about tomorrow.”
One positive for Evenepoel is that he no longer has to consider the mountain jersey, allowing him to shift his focus entirely on the stage win. “The good thing is I don’t have to think about the mountain jersey anymore. So it’s full focus on the stage win. It’s a pretty hard and long day to finish the Vuelta.”
As the anticipation builds for tomorrow’s stage, Evenepoel’s determination and hope remain steady. Cycling fans will eagerly watch as he tackles the challenges ahead and strives for victory.
