Team Jumbo-Visma Takes a Quiet Approach in 11th Stage of Vuelta a España
The eleventh stage of the Vuelta a España saw a breakaway of 26 riders battling it out for the stage win on the summit of La Laguna Negra. Surprisingly, the general classification (GC) riders did not make any attacks on the final climb, resulting in a “quiet” day for Team Jumbo-Visma.
“I was expecting the opposition to try something today, but it didn’t happen”, said Jonas Vingegaard. “We agreed with the team beforehand not to do anything today. We are in a good position. So, for us, every stage that passes is a good thing. We will see what happens on Friday’s stage when we reach the Tourmalet. This stage will be crucial.”
Sepp Kuss, the current leader in the GC, also had a calm day. “All in all, I had a quiet day”, he said. “We could afford to give the lead group some space today. None of the escapees threatened the classification. Then, it was a matter of staying focused on the final climb.”
Kuss also expressed his motivation to continue leading the race, saying, “I still have the red leader’s jersey, which is a great motivation for the next stages.”
In terms of the stage results, Jesús Herrada of Cofidis took the win, with Romain Grégoire of Groupama – FDJ and Andreas Kron of Lotto Dstny finishing second and third respectively.
As for the GC standings, Kuss maintains his position as the leader, followed by Marc Soler of UAE Team Emirates and Remco Evenepoel of Soudal – Quick Step in second and third place.
Team Jumbo-Visma’s other riders, including Wilco Kelderman, Jonas Vingegaard, and Primož Roglič, also remain in contention in the top rankings.
The Vuelta a España continues with more challenging stages ahead, and Team Jumbo-Visma will be looking to defend their positions and make strategic moves to secure a strong finish in the race.
