La Vuelta Returns to Tarragona

The peloton of La Vuelta made its way back to Tarragona, the oldest Roman settlement on the Iberian Peninsula, after a summit finish in Andorra. The stage concluded with a bunch sprint which saw Kaden Groves of Alpecin-Deceuninck claim the victory. Meanwhile, race leader Remco Evenepoel maintained his position in the general classification.

Crashes in the closing kilometers of the stage resulted in a reduced group contesting the sprint. Despite the chaotic finale, Evenepoel finished safely in the bunch just a few seconds behind the winner.

After an intense start to the edition, the Belgian rider enjoyed a relatively calm day. Reflecting on the stage, Evenepoel expressed his gratitude towards his team for their support and protection throughout the race.

Looking ahead, Evenepoel hopes for a similar scenario on the roads to Burriana, where the 186.2km stage five concludes. He emphasized the team’s focus on the general classification and the climbing stages after the sprint opportunity.

The race returns to action, providing another chance for the sprinters before the climbers take center stage. With Evenepoel leading the general classification by a slim margin, the battle for the red jersey continues.
