Samuele Battistella Comes Close to Victory in Stage 7 of Vuelta a España
Astana Qazaqstan Team’s Samuele Battistella was close to his first Grand Tour stage win when the young Italian finished second in Stage 7 of the 2022 Vuelta a España. The victory went to Spanish rider Jesús Herrada.
Battistella expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, “I think I did everything I had to do. I did a really good sprint, but the guy from Cofidis was just faster. I cannot regret anything.”
The stage featured a breakaway group consisting of six riders, including Battistella. The breakaway maintained a gap of up to 4 minutes on the peloton. Despite the peloton’s efforts to catch up in the final part of the race, the five leaders managed to stay ahead.
“The cooperation was good in the break. Unfortunately, I lost in the sprint, but I have a good feeling. The Vuelta is still long. We will see what can happen in the coming stages,”
– Battistella commented.
Battistella’s strong performance in Stage 7 suggests that he has the potential for more success in the remaining stages of Vuelta a España. With the race still ongoing, anything can happen.
