Veenhoven just missed out on victory in Simac Omloop der Kempen
Veenhoven, who made her comeback last week after a collarbone fracture in Gent-Wevelgem, secured a podium spot for the second week in a row. After her third place in Trofee Maarten Wynants, she had to settle for second place on home soil. “Of course it’s a shame I didn’t win, but I can certainly be happy with the sprint I rode,” Veenhoven said.”When April attacked at 4 kilometers from the finish, no team took control. Linda still did a very good job in the last kilometer, but in the end the gap was just too big to come back. The fact that I won the sprint for second place gives a lot of confidence for the future. If we do this more often, I think Martina and I will be in a promising situation often enough to fight for the win.”
“Things are going very well. Unfortunately, only the victory is missing.”
Nienke Veenhoven
Veenhoven believes her teammates did everything they could to get the maximum result. “We can’t blame ourselves for anything. Because there were only four of us, we knew we had to gamble at some point.” With two wins in six days, Veenhoven sees the future looking bright. “Things are going very well, unfortunately only the victory is missing. If I keep going like this, it will come one day.”
