Astana Qazaqstan Team had a successful day at the Circuit de Getxo, a one-day race in Spain, with Alexey Lutsenko claiming a solo victory and Simone Velasco securing a third-place finish. Lutsenko expressed his gratitude towards his teammates for their exceptional support and teamwork during the race, stating, “Yevgeniy Fedorov and Simone Velasco were just incredible today!”.
Lutsenko further revealed the team’s strategy, stating, “It was our plan to be active right from the start and we always stayed up there in front attacking and trying to break away.” His attack on the penultimate climb gave him a significant advantage. Although he momentarily took a wrong route on the descent, Lutsenko managed to regain his lead and maintain his gap. Velasco played a crucial role in preventing any attacks from their rivals behind. Lutsenko expressed his satisfaction with the victory, stating, “I am really happy with this victory; it gives me a lot of motivation ahead of my next goals.”
Velasco also expressed his contentment with his podium finish, stating, “I am happy for Alexey; he was the strongest today. Also, I am really satisfied with my result today.” The team’s success at Circuito de Getxo marks a positive end to their racing block in Spain.
