Lotto Soudal has announced the contract extensions of Belgian rider Tosh Van der Sande and Polish rider Tomasz Marczyński, securing their presence on the team until the end of 2021. These two riders have been integral members of the WorldTour team, with Marczyński entering his sixth season and Van der Sande entering his tenth season with the Belgian squad. The duo will kick off their partnership at the 75th Tour of Spain, as the team continues to shape its roster for the upcoming season.
Van der Sande, a former junior world champion and winner of Liège-Bastogne-Liège U23, has proven to be a valuable support rider for the team’s leaders in challenging races. He has also showcased his own abilities, such as winning a stage in the Tour de Wallonie last season. Looking ahead to the Tour of Spain, Van der Sande said, “Sprinting with a small group after a difficult stage is the scenario that suits me best. This will already be the case from tomorrow in my sixth Vuelta.”
Marczyński, a quadruple champion of Poland and a previous stage winner in the Vuelta, is determined to achieve further success. Having lived in Spain for many years, he is excited to race in his adopted country and guide the new crop of young riders joining the team in 2021. “After five seasons with Lotto Soudal, people are starting to get to know me. They also know that I will be able to guide all these young riders who are arriving next year. With my experience, I will show them around the peloton,” Marczyński expressed.
The Lotto Soudal team is currently in the process of finalizing its roster for the 2021 season. With Marczyński and Van der Sande’s re-signings, the team has already confirmed 27 riders for next year, including nine new additions. The provisional list of Lotto Soudal riders for 2021 includes Filippo Conca, Steff Cras, Jasper De Buyst, Thomas De Gendt, John Degenkolb, Caleb Ewan, Frederik Frison, Philippe Gilbert, and other talented cyclists.
