Matteo Jorgenson Leads Team USA in Maryland Cycling Classic, Presented by UnitedHealthcare

USA Cycling has announced its roster for the upcoming Maryland Cycling Classic, presented by UnitedHealthcare, and it is headlined by Matteo Jorgenson. The 24-year-old World Tour rider from Boise, Idaho will be joined by six of the top Under-23 riders in the United States.

The Maryland Cycling Classic is America’s biggest road race and will feature a world-class field with Tour de France stage winners and major stage race champions. The race covers a distance of 121.9 miles and starts in Sparks, Md., ending in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

USA Cycling Road Director Tanner Putt expressed excitement about the team, stating, “Our team will be comprised of both youth and experienced riders. I’m really excited about the prospect of our U23 riders racing with Matteo, who came up through the USA Cycling development pathway.”

Matteo Jorgenson, currently ranked 39th in the UCI World rankings, will make his first race appearance since his injury at the Tour de France. Jorgenson has had an impressive 2023 season with wins at the Tour of Oman and podium finishes at the Tour of Romandie and E3 Saxo Classic.

The Maryland Cycling Classic is the top-ranked one-day professional cycling race in America and will feature 16 teams from 21 countries. The competition includes a mix of World Tour, Pro Tour, and Continental teams.

The race is produced by Sport & Entertainment Corp. of Maryland and is supported by Maryland and Baltimore Civic Leaders. Medalist Sports and KOM Sports Marketing are the event managers and marketing agency, respectively.
