Kuss remains leader at Vuelta a España after strong time trial performance
Sepp Kuss maintained his lead in the general classification following a solid time trial at the Vuelta a España. The stage was dominated by Filippo Ganna of INEOS Grenadiers, who claimed victory with an impressive performance. However, Kuss managed to hold onto the red jersey, finishing ahead of his rivals.
Speaking about his performance, Kuss said, “It was the first time I started a time trial in such an important position, but I felt relaxed. I was trying to take pleasure in the idea that I was going around in the red jersey, but it was all about pedaling as hard as possible.” He also credited his teammates, Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard, for giving him confidence.
With the tough mountain stages ahead, Kuss acknowledged that he could lose his advantage quickly. “It’s only the tenth stage, so there is still a lot to do. We will have to see how the next stages go. I feel good, and both Primoz and Jonas give me a lot of confidence,” he said.
Sports director Grischa Niermann expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance so far. “After ten days, we can say we are in good form,” he said. However, Niermann also noted that Jonas Vingegaard had a lesser time trial than expected.
Kuss currently leads the general classification, with Marc Soler in second place, followed by Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic. The race is far from over, with challenging mountain stages to come.
