Fem van Empel Celebrates Victory as She Aims for Second World Cross-Country Title
Fem van Empel, a 21-year-old Visma | Lease a Bike rider, recently proved her form and talent on the renowned Hoogerheide course, setting her sights on the upcoming World Championships in Tabor. Van Empel, who clinched her first world cross-country title at the Hoogerheide course in 2023, expressed her confidence and determination after a spectacular performance.
Van Empel, alongside Lucinda Brand, led the race from the start, and Hungarian Blanka Vas joined them in the final stages. Van Empel’s impressive display saw her surging ahead on the final stair section, ultimately securing a convincing victory. “This gives me a lot of confidence for next week,” Van Empel stated. “I felt good today on a course I have fond memories of.”
With a total of seventeen cyclocross wins in her successful season, Van Empel is eagerly looking forward to the world championships. “I have worked hard this season. The most important race is next week. I am aiming for a second world title. I’m confident in my abilities, so I’m attending the world championships in good spirits,” she remarked, reflecting on her accomplished performances and the challenges ahead.
