Jarne Van de Paar Returns to Racing in Scheldeprijs After Overcoming Injury
After his victory in the GP Monserez, Jarne Van de Paar is making a comeback in the Scheldeprijs today following a period of injury. Van de Paar expressed his motivation for the race, acknowledging the unpredictability due to being away from competitive cycling for a while: “I am extremely motivated. This is a sprint race and there is a lot of wind. Anything can happen. I am fresh. I hope for a top ten.”
Van de Paar’s return to racing was delayed due to a crash in the Grand Prix Vermarc and persistent knee pain, which hindered his spring plans. Reflecting on the incident, he shared, “We fell in a spot where the peloton – including myself – also went down last year. The race had barely covered two kilometers and there we went again… I hit my knee hard on my handlebars.”
The cyclist had been dealing with knee issues prior to the crash, but the fall exacerbated the situation, leading to inflammation and necessitating a break from racing. Van de Paar admitted, “It dragged on for quite a while… before you know it, three weeks have passed without a race.”
Following his participation in the Scheldeprijs, Van de Paar will conclude his spring season, focusing on recuperation and preparing for future races. He acknowledged that the upcoming Ardennes races are not suitable for his current condition, emphasizing the need for patience and readiness for new opportunities.
Despite the setbacks, Van de Paar’s return to competitive cycling showcases his resilience and determination to overcome obstacles. As he embarks on his journey back to full form, his presence in races like the Scheldeprijs serves as a testament to his perseverance in the face of adversity.
