Team Jumbo-Visma Makes Vuelta History with Unique Trilogy Victory
Team Jumbo-Visma has accomplished a historic feat by winning all three Grand Tours in one season. After winning the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France earlier this year, the team’s Sepp Kuss emerged as the overall winner of the Vuelta a España. Kuss donned the red leader’s jersey after the eighth stage and never relinquished it for the rest of the race. He stood on the top step of the podium in Madrid on Sunday evening, expressing his disbelief at the achievement.
Team Jumbo-Visma CEO Richard Plugge praised the team’s performance, stating, “The fact that we are also first, second and third on the podium makes it truly exceptional. Winning together is not only our slogan but also our trademark.”
The team’s success in winning all three Grand Tours in the same year is an achievement that Plugge believes will go down in history. He added, “We are doing something unique. We have managed to do it together again.”
Kuss’s victory in the Vuelta a España brings Team Jumbo-Visma’s total number of victories to 62 in 2023. The team also won the team classification of the Spanish race.
Following the incredible achievement, Plugge emphasized the need to continue evaluating and improving, stating, “There is no time to sit still in top sports. The competition is getting stronger and stronger, so we cannot let up or become complacent.”
The team’s trilogy victory in the Grand Tours marks a crowning achievement for Team Jumbo-Visma in the last ten years, solidifying their place in cycling history.
