Stage Preview: Skoda Tour de Luxembourg
The president of the Skoda Tour de Luxembourg, Andy Schleck, provides an analysis of the stages in this year’s edition of the race. From challenging climbs to thrilling finishes, the stages offer a variety of exciting racing opportunities for the participants.
Stage 1: Luxembourg (Neumünster Abbey) – Luxembourg (Kirchberg) 156.4 km
“It will be a beautiful start at Neumünster Abbey, where we will be able to present the teams in a magnificent setting.” Schleck expects a group of 20-30 riders to compete for victory, with the possibility of a larger group forming on the Côte de Stafelter.
Stage 2: Mondorf-les-Bains – Mamer 183.9 km
This stage offers the possibility of a bunch sprint, but breakaways always have a chance of winning in races like the Skoda Tour de Luxembourg. The final circuit provides an interesting descent and a slightly uphill finish.
Stage 3: Mertert – Vianden 168.4 km
Described as the queen stage, this stage includes a particularly challenging climb, the Côte du Niklosbierg, which will test the climbers with its 18% average gradient. The finish at Vianden Castle will be an interesting test with limited space for spectators.
Stage 4 (ITT): Pétange – Pétange 23.9 km
The individual time trial will take place in Pétange and could be a game-changer in the general classification. Despite initial skepticism about the route, the circuit has received positive feedback from teams and could result in gaps and changes in the overall standings.
Stage 5: Mersch – Luxembourg 177.2 km
This stage features a challenging final circuit with four categorized climbs and a finish near the city centre. A breakaway could potentially take the victory, and the race is usually decided in the final kilometers. The Pabeierbierg climb is expected to attract a large number of spectators.
The Skoda Tour de Luxembourg promises an exciting and competitive race, with riders facing varying challenges across the different stages. Spectators can anticipate thrilling finishes and impressive performances from the participants.
