Matteo Jorgenson Leads Team USA at Maryland Cycling Classic

America’s top one-day international pro cycling race, the Maryland Cycling Classic, presented by UnitedHealthcare, is set to take place on September 3rd. The seven-rider roster for Team USA has been announced, with Matteo Jorgenson headlining the team. The race features a world-class field including Tour de France stage winners and current major stage race champions.

Jorgenson, a 24-year-old World Tour rider, is currently the second-ranked U.S. rider and 39th in the UCI World rankings. He will be making his comeback since his injury at this summer’s Tour de France. Jorgenson has established himself as one of the top riders in the world, with notable performances in 2023, including winning the Tour of Oman and finishing second at the Tour of Romandie.

Team USA will also feature six of the United States’ top Under-23 riders, including National Champion Owen Cole and young talent Caleb Classen. USA Cycling Road Director Tanner Putt expressed excitement about the team’s composition, saying, “Our team will be comprised of both youth and experienced riders.” Jorgenson’s presence is expected to play a pivotal role in aiding the development of the younger riders.

The Maryland Cycling Classic is the top-ranked one-day professional cycling race in America, featuring teams from 21 countries and a unique blend of World Tour, Pro Tour, and Continental teams. The race will start in Sparks, Md., and finish at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
