Defending champion Jorgenson heads to his favorite race Paris-Nice with confidence

The Race to the Sun kicks off with two relatively flat stages. On the third day, a team time trial will be a first real test. The peloton then moves south, with the decisive part of the eight-day race traditionally taking place in the final weekend.  

Last year’s edition of the race was won by Jorgenson. The American secured the yellow jersey on the final day. After a promising Flemish Opening Weekend last week, he hopes to carry his good form into France. “I gained confidence during the Opening Weekend,” says Jorgenson. “My approach and my schedule are identical to last year. Just like last season, I’m heading into Paris-Nice in great shape.”

“I’m really looking forward to racing with Jonas again”

Jorgenson knows the French coastal city like the back of his hand. As the defending champion, he starts with ambition. “Paris-Nice is always one of the highlights of the season. This race is definitely one of my favorite ones on the calendar. It will be special to start with number one on my back. We have a strong lineup. Moreover, I’m really looking forward to racing with Jonas again. We get along well and have already proven to be a great duo in races. We definitely have a shot at another overall victory in Nice.”  

Sports director Grischa Niermann is looking forward to the race with excitement. “Jonas showed in Algarve that he is in good shape. Matteo also demonstrated in Flanders that he is feeling strong. It’s great that we can start Paris-Nice with two leaders of that caliber. Naturally, we are aiming for the highest possible result.”

“Jonas and Matteo will be supported by strong teammates, who will be valuable both on the flat and in the mountains,” Niermann adds. “Among those to watch are Victor Campenaerts and Axel Zingle, two new faces in the team. The team time trial on the third day is also a key opportunity for success. “We have already proven in the past that a team time trial suits us well. We will start the week with an open mindset.”
