Florian Vermeersch Shows Fighting Spirit at Paris-Roubaix

Lotto Dstny rider Florian Vermeersch demonstrated his fighting spirit as he secured a 12th place finish in the fastest ever edition of Paris-Roubaix. Despite missing the initial breakaway, the young Belgian cyclist attempted to bridge the gap alongside Laporte and Van Hooydonck. Although they came close, they were unable to make the connection and Vermeersch sprinted to twelfth place on the Velodrome of Roubaix. Vermeersch expressed his content with the race, stating “I felt strong today and a top ten would have been nice but I have to settle with this result.”

Vermeersch’s solid performance in both the Ronde and Paris-Roubaix solidifies his cobbled campaign. He reflects on his achievement, saying “To finish twice inside the top fifteen of a Monument definitely makes me happy… We took a nice step as a team, but we still have some things to learn.”

Despite some bad luck with punctures, debutant Arnaud De Lie finished the race in 50th place and expressed his enjoyment of the experience, stating “I felt strong and I really enjoyed today. Unfortunately, I punctured in the Arenberg forest but I kept fighting… It’s a pity but this was a nice first taste of Hell.”

On a negative note, Lotto Dstny rider Sébastien Grignard suffered a crash early on and was brought to the hospital for examination. While no fractures were found, Grignard suffered a concussion, a deep cut around the eye, and bruising to the shoulder, which will keep him from racing for a while.

Overall, the Lotto Dstny team sees Vermeersch’s performance as a positive step forward and remains motivated to continue their development as a team.
