Zoe Bäckstedt Achieves Historic Milestone with First Elite CX World Cup Podium

Zoe Bäckstedt, the 19-year-old cycling sensation, has achieved a significant milestone in her career by securing her first-ever Elite Cyclo-cross World Cup podium spot. At the World Cup event in Dendermonde, Belgium, Bäckstedt’s stellar performance earned her the third position, marking a pivotal moment in her pursuit of competitive success.

In an interview, Bäckstedt expressed her elation at the achievement, stating, “I’m over the moon with that today! It was a really tough course with a lot of running, but I have some good memories here from the last time it was a World Cup. To finish on the podium here makes me really happy!”

Despite the challenging conditions and fierce competition, Bäckstedt exhibited exceptional skill and determination, finishing just 1:35 minutes behind the winner. Her remarkable performance also saw her reclaim the lead in the U23 World Cup classification and advance to third place in the elite classification, affirming her potential as a rising star in the world of cyclo-cross.

Speaking about the race and the demanding conditions, Bäckstedt remarked, “The conditions were what I expected after all the rain in the last week. It wasn’t really the kind of thing where there was a ‘best line’ or something. It was just a case of putting down the power and hoping for the best! Then, it was just trying to be smart and getting off the bike before you come to a standstill and use the momentum to keep going when you start running.”

Looking ahead with enthusiasm, Bäckstedt expressed her excitement about leading the U23 classification once again, saying, “I’m so excited to be back in the lead in the U23 classification! Another World Cup next weekend and an opportunity to show off the jersey! I can’t wait to race in it again.”

Bäckstedt’s remarkable achievement has solidified her position as a formidable force in the world of cyclo-cross, and her fans eagerly anticipate her future triumphs. As the World Cup series progresses, Bäckstedt’s determination and talent continue to captivate audiences worldwide, setting the stage for a thrilling season ahead. With the upcoming World Cup event in Troyes, France, on Sunday, 19 November, the cycling world eagerly anticipates Bäckstedt’s next display of skill and tenacity.
