In a thrilling conclusion at the Boucles de la Mayenne, Matthew Brennan of Team Visma | Lease a Bike sprinted to a commendable ninth place in the final stage held in Laval. The race kicked off with a breakaway composed of four riders, who initially opened a significant lead. However, as the finish approached, teams—including Lidl-Trek, Decathlon AG2R, and Team Visma—intensified their efforts, ultimately catching the breakaway group in the closing kilometers.
As the peloton surged toward the finish line, Brennan’s team successfully positioned him well, slotting him into the slipstream of Olav Kooij for the final push. But during the fierce scramble for positioning, Brennan lost the wheel of Kooij, prompting him to initiate his sprint earlier than planned. He crossed the finish line in ninth place.
Reflecting on his performance, Brennan stated, “A top-10 finish is okay, but not really what I was hoping for.”
