Remco Evenepoel: Teammate Sepp Kuss Assured Control of Stage
September 13, 2023
In the Vuelta a España, Remco Evenepoel, the Belgian cyclist, acknowledged that his chances of winning the stage were slim. He revealed that his teammate Sepp Kuss had informed him that the team would be taking control of the stage. Evenepoel expressed his plan to be part of the breakaway to gather points on the initial climbs and assess the situation on the daunting Angliru climb.
However, the gap established by Evenepoel was not substantial enough. He managed to maintain an advantage of around 1 minute and 30 seconds for a certain period, but as the climb became steeper, he began to run out of energy. Despite the challenges, Evenepoel and his resilient teammate Mattia Cattaneo formed a relentless duo, collaborating closely throughout the race.
Reflecting on their performance, Evenepoel stated, “It wasn’t easy at all but I think we did well, scoring the points, and tomorrow we try to secure the jersey.” With a determined mindset, Evenepoel looks forward to the upcoming stages with the aim of solidifying his position in the race.
