Lorena Wiebes finishes perfect day for Team SD Worx-Protime in Simac Ladies Tour and secures win number 65
Sports manager Danny Stam: ‘I am very satisfied after today’s ride. In the beginning there was nervousness, but it didn’t break into pieces. After 56 kilometres, we then tried to break it and that worked out well. It was nice that the rest of the breakaway also kept working well at the front. Our riders delivered Barbara Guarischi, Lotte Kopecky and Lorena Wiebes well on the last roundabout 500 metres from the end, after which it was up to that trio. Who then finished it off nicely.’Lorena Wiebes: ‘It was quite a tough race. We worked hard to maintain our lead, because behind us teams were also chasing who had missed the battle. At five kilometres from the end, we consulted among ourselves and with the team leader’s car, after which it was decided to pull my card. I was brought perfectly. When I saw it was 200 metres to go, I went on. This was perhaps just that tad too early, but fortunately I was able to hold off everyone. That we ended up finishing one and three only makes it more beautiful.’Sports manager Danny Stam: ‘’Thanks to her third place, Lotte Kopecky is approaching to within three seconds of leader Zoë Backstedt. Lorena Wiebes is now at 20 seconds. So we’re in good shape in the general classification, but there are still three tough days ahead where we need to stay attentive. The group is getting smaller and smaller and that makes it easier to control.’‘It’s nice that with this 65th win we break last season’s record. We never thought at the beginning of the season that it was possible to match it, let alone break it. It’s another ultimate season,’ Stam said.
