Team dsm-firmenich PostNL take superb sprint win with Charlotte Kool at Baloise Ladies Tour
Building on promising results and podium places in the opening days, Team dsm-firmenich PostNL nailed the lead-out at Baloise Ladies Tour on Friday afternoon, sprinting to a superb stage win with Charlotte Kool.
A relatively calm day through the Belgian countryside saw a few breakaway groups come and go, but the peloton was always in control. Team dsm-firmenich PostNL grouped up well throughout the afternoon, helping to set the pace in the bunch but also conserving energy and keeping each other safe; all with a view of setting up Kool for the finale. Coming into the final five kilometres the breakaway was caught and those in the orange-stripes moved up well on the left-side of the road. Beginning to up the pace as the flamme rouge approached, the team stretched the bunch out and ensured that Kool was out of any danger or mishaps. With last lead-out lighting things up, she delivered Kool around the last bend inside 200 metres to go and from there Kool kicked on the pedals, putting her head down and powering to a fantastic win with Team dsm-firmeinch PostNL’s Women’s program.
An elated Kool said: “Today I think everything finally fell into place for us. We showed once again that we have an amazingly strong team and lead out. In all of the other races we showed that already but things just didn’t go right for us in the final or we missed something, but now it went perfectly. I’m just really happy and this is a well deserved win for the whole team.”
Team dsm-firmenich PostNL coach Albert Timmer continued: “This is a nice win for our confidence. I saw in the final the team was really on point. We made some mistakes yesterday but today everything fell into place so it is a nice win for the team. I think everyone played their part and role in the victory today so that is also really good to see. We can be happy with how things went today and are looking forward to the rest of the stages here.”
