Team Visma | Lease a Bike gets through Stage 7 of the Giro unscathed, focus shifts to decisive mountain stage
# Team Visma | Lease a Bike Navigates Stage 7 of Giro d’Italia Women with Focus on Upcoming Challenges
In the wake of a challenging Stage 7, Team Visma | Lease a Bike has emerged intact, despite the earlier withdrawal of Margaux Vigié due to illness, which left the team to compete without her. The stage saw an early breakaway of five riders, gaining up to eight minutes on the peloton, leading to a calm pace for much of the race. However, the ending unfolded with increased intensity among the main group.
Team manager Rutger Tijssen described the day as “hectic and exciting,” acknowledging the stage’s potential for unforeseen challenges, including tight corners and steep climbs. He expressed relief that the team avoided any major crashes, stating, “Fortunately, we managed to avoid a big crash as a team.”
The sprint options for Nienke Veenhoven were limited due to the fast pace in the peloton. Tijssen noted, “Today a sprint wasn’t an option for Nienke; the pace in the peloton was simply too high,” but emphasized that Femke de Vries received excellent support and protection from the team throughout the stage. He concluded with determination for the following day’s challenge: “On to the Finestre, because tomorrow will be decisive.”
With Stage 7 behind them, Team Visma | Lease a Bike is gearing up for a critical day ahead that includes two demanding climbs and a summit finish on a short but grueling course of just over 105 kilometers. This upcoming stage promises to shake up the standings as the general classification contenders gear up for battle in pursuit of the coveted pink jersey.
In the Stage 7 results, Célia Gery from FDJ United – SUEZ took the top honor, completing the stage in 03:51:13. Notable finishes for Team Visma | Lease a Bike included Rosita Reijnhout in 44th place, followed by Femke de Vries in 51st and Viktória Chladoňová in 55th. Vigié’s early departure was noted with a DNF.
As Team Visma | Lease a Bike prepares for the decisive challenges ahead, the team is focused on harnessing their strengths and supporting their general classification riders in what promises to be an exhilarating continuation of the Giro d’Italia Women.
