Vigié sprints to tenth place in the second stage of the Vuelta a Burgos

# Vigié Claims Tenth Place in Thrilling Second Stage of Vuelta a Burgos

In the second stage of the Vuelta a Burgos, the excitement for sprinters was palpable, culminating in a closely contested bunch sprint. Though three riders initiated a breakaway, they were swiftly caught by the peloton just twenty kilometers from the finish line. This set the stage for a frantic finale, marked by multiple attacks.

A significant breakaway involving Maud Oudeman created a glimmer of hope, as they momentarily gained a few seconds on the peloton. However, their lead proved insufficient as the main group closed in. In a display of sheer speed and prowess, Lorena Wiebes emerged victorious, solidifying her status as the top sprinter of the day.

Margaux Vigié, representing Team Visma | Lease a Bike, encountered challenges after being squeezed in due to a crash. Despite this setback, she showcased her resilience and managed to finish in the top ten.

“The result is slightly less than yesterday, but if you look at Margaux’s sprint, she simply did well,” remarked sports director Jan Boven. “Whereas yesterday we were very well positioned in the final, today we ended up just behind a crash. Margaux got boxed in for a moment, had to start her sprint from a distance, and consequently couldn’t get anywhere near the top places. Nevertheless, she rode a good sprint.”

Looking ahead, Boven emphasized the importance of the upcoming stage’s start and finish. “The start is tricky; I’m curious to see if anything happens there. The final includes a lap with two climbs, which could make for an interesting finale. Maud and Rosita, in particular, will need to be extra alert here, as their rivals will undoubtedly see opportunities and go on the attack.”
