Martinez Secures Tour de Romandie Podium and Best Young Rider Title for Bahrain Victorious
# Lenny Martinez Shines at Tour de Romandie, Clinching Podium and Best Young Rider Title for Bahrain Victorious
Lenny Martinez delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Tour de Romandie, securing a commendable third place overall while also winning the Best Young Rider classification. His achievement came after six grueling days of racing through the picturesque Romandie region of Switzerland.
Competing fiercely against elite riders, Martinez finished on the final podium behind reigning World Champion Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates XRG and Florian Lipowitz of Red Bull Bora hansgrohe. This result signifies another significant accomplishment for Bahrain Victorious, who exhibited aggressive racing throughout the week.
The last stage, stretching from Lucens to Leysin, was pivotal for finalizing the podium standings. As the race escalated, Bahrain Victorious took control with teamwork, particularly from Antonio Tiberi and Damiano Caruso, who executed a solid lead-out deep into the challenging climb. Their efforts thinned out the leading group as Lipowitz initiated an attack with three kilometers to go, prompting an immediate response from Pogačar.
Meanwhile, Martinez engaged in a fierce contest with Jørgen Nordhagen from Team Visma Lease a Bike, battling not only for the third overall spot but also for the white jersey awarded to the best young rider. Martinez matched every challenge and crossed the finish line at the same time as Nordhagen, successfully preserving both his podium position and youth classification.
Martinez’s overall standing was significantly bolstered by his strong performance in Stage 1, where he placed third, setting the foundation for the time gap he defended throughout the competition.
Roman Kreuziger, Bahrain Victorious’ Sports Director, praised the team’s efforts, stating: “Today’s result reflects the whole week and the progress our riders are making… Lenny may be disappointed with third place, but he should not be. Finishing behind Lipowitz, who was third at the last Tour de France, and Tour winner Pogačar is a very strong result. We had some moments without luck during the week, but the team stayed committed until the finish and earned a podium place.”
Kreuziger also highlighted the importance of the results: “This result gives confidence to everyone. Great work from the whole team.”
Reflecting on his performance, Martinez expressed gratitude for his team’s support: “It was a good day. The team positioned me perfectly before the final climb… In the end, I defended my place and the white jersey, but those two riders were stronger for the stage win.”
With a mix of youthful promise and team synergy, Martinez’s podium finish not only marks a personal achievement but also boosts Bahrain Victorious’ confidence as they move forward in the competitive cycling season.
