Team Visma Lease a Bike, with challenger Van Aert, heads to the Tour of Flanders full of confidence
# Team Visma Lease a Bike Gears Up for Tour of Flanders with Optimism
As the Tour of Flanders approaches, Team Visma Lease a Bike is filled with confidence, particularly with their star rider, Wout van Aert. After a spirited second-place finish at Dwars door Vlaanderen, the 31-year-old Belgian cyclist is eager to showcase his prowess in this iconic race.
Reflecting on his recent performances, Van Aert shared, “I look back on my last two races with a good feeling. In both In Flanders Fields and Dwars door Vlaanderen, I raced aggressively and had strong finishes. It’s a shame it hasn’t led to a victory yet, but it is the way of racing I love. That makes me happy.” He is particularly enthusiastic about riding in his home country, stating, “As a Belgian rider, there’s nothing better than being able to ride a Monument in my own country.”
The 110th edition of Vlaanderens Mooiste is set to commence from Antwerp and culminate in Oudenaarde, covering a challenging 278-kilometer route filled with legendary climbs and treacherous cobblestone sections. The race’s climax is expected in the final 55 kilometers, featuring the infamous Oude Kwaremont, Paterberg, and Koppenberg. Van Aert acknowledges the pressure, asserting, “Of course it’s stressful, but for me, the Tour of Flanders is one of the highlights of the year. Being at the center of one of the biggest cycling events in the world feels very special.”
Team Visma Lease a Bike’s strategy for the race reflects their ambition. Van Aert emphasized the unpredictability of the event, saying, “The Tour of Flanders is a race in a class of its own and is chaotic every year. It’s almost impossible to predict how the race will unfold.” However, his confidence is bolstered by a return to form following an earlier setback. “Am I surprised by where I am now? No, not really. I’ve worked incredibly hard for this over the past few months… I needed the past few races to take that final step,” Van Aert noted.
Team director, Niermann, acknowledges the strong lineup they are bringing to the race, expressing high ambitions for the team. “Wout has shown in recent races that he is among the strongest riders in the peloton, but Christophe Laporte and Per Strand Hagenes have also already posted impressive results,” Niermann stated. He added that the final outcome will depend on how the closing kilometers unfold: “In the ideal scenario, we’ll have several cards to play in the final, but that will depend on how the last fifty kilometers unfold. I expect the strongest riders to be the ones left standing.”
With determination in the air, Team Visma Lease a Bike is ready to take on the Tour of Flanders, fueled by the hopes of their fans and the spirit of competition.
