ProTeam Strong team performance at Figueira Champions Classic as Widar finishes fourth
# ProTeam Achieves Strong Performance at Figueira Champions Classic with Widar Finishing Fourth
The Figueira Champions Classic unfolded as a challenging race characterized by an arduous parcours and a high-tempo peloton. The undulating terrain and repeated climbs on the finishing circuit set the stage for a selective and tactical battle.
ProTeam adopted an attentive and proactive strategy, ensuring that they remained engaged and responsive to pivotal moments throughout the race. As the breakaway took shape and dynamics shifted, the riders kept strong placements, allowing them to be ready for the decisive phases. Cedric Beullens played a vital role in the day’s breakaway, positioning the team advantageously to control the race.
As the competitors approached the final 20 kilometers, the pace escalated dramatically when a group of six riders, including ProTeam’s Jarno Widar, broke away. During the final ascents, Widar exhibited remarkable composure and strength, competing fiercely with Martí for the third position. Ultimately, he crossed the finish line in fourth place, just shy of securing a podium spot.
Reflecting on his first race of the season, Widar expressed his satisfaction with his performance, lauding the dedicated efforts of his teammates: “With Cedric (Beullens) in the breakaway today, we were immediately safe. On the long climb, I unfortunately was too far to make the move but luckily Liam (Slock), Luca (Van Boven), and Matys (Grisel) came at the perfect time and they worked extremely hard to get back. On the final climb, Cedric (Beullens) again did a massive job!”
He further noted, “I knew that the final climb would be decisive. I was only missing a bit of punch, but now I only know better how to train for my upcoming goals. I am really happy with today’s result and the work done by the team,” Widar concluded, showcasing his positivity and motivation for future challenges.
