Tiberi Third at Clàssica Camp de Morvedre
# Tiberi Secures Third Place at Clàssica Camp de Morvedre
Antonio Tiberi delivered an impressive performance to claim the first podium of the season for Bahrain Victorious, finishing third at the 2nd Clàssica Camp de Morvedre held in Spain. The UCI 1.1 one-day race, covering a challenging 164 km route with start and finish lines in Estivella (Valencia), saw Tiberi sprint into the top three after a strategically executed race.
The Italian climber was dynamically involved in the latter stages, making it into the final selection alongside Christian Scaroni from XDS Astana and Diego Pescador of Movistar. Scaroni ultimately took the win, with Pescador securing second place, leaving Tiberi satisfied with his third-place finish.
Bahrain Victorious demonstrated tactical acumen throughout the race, with 20-year-old Bálint Feldhoffer particularly noteworthy. The young Hungarian was active in an early breakaway and successfully nabbed an intermediate sprint at km 59.6 in Estivella.
The course was grueling, featuring an elevation gain of 2,568 meters and the challenging Alto del Garbí climb, which was tackled three times. The race intensity increased significantly during the final ascent, where Tiberi, Scaroni, and Pescador managed to break away from the chasing pack.
Reflecting on his performance, Tiberi stated, “It was a good test to start the season. I felt good on the climbs and the team worked really well all day. In the final, Scaroni was the strongest in the sprint, but I’m happy with third place and with how I felt in my first race of the year. It’s a good base to build on for the next races.”
Sports Director Gorazd Štangelj praised the team’s strategy, explaining, “We did a good job. The reason we sent Feldhoffer into the breakaway was to survive the first two climbs and to have one rider ahead for positioning at the bottom of the final climb. In the end, he didn’t manage to stay there, but luckily Alec (Segaert) was still with Antonio and did a great job positioning him before the climb.”
Stressing the competitive nature of the race, Štangelj added, “This morning, we would have been very happy to sign for third place, but when you’re in the fight for victory, finishing third out of three can leave a bit of disappointment.” He further commented on Tiberi’s favorable condition, optimistic about upcoming races, “Antonio is in great condition, and if he maintains this form in the upcoming races, we can really look forward to what’s coming.”
The Clàssica Camp de Morvedre marks a promising start for Bahrain Victorious and sets a positive outlook for the rest of the competitive season.
