# Team Visma | Lease a Bike Faces Challenges in the Tour Down Under Women’s One Day Race
In the second edition of the Tour Down Under Women’s One Day Race held in Australia, Team Visma | Lease a Bike encountered a mix of competition and misfortune. The action kicked off at the local laps in Tanunda, where multiple riders attempted to break free from the peloton. The team remained vigilant, positioning themselves at the front to respond to these early attacks.
As the race progressed into the final kilometers, the peloton remained intact, though not without incidents. The Dutch team’s hopes for a strong finish were hindered when Maud Oudeman experienced crashes that led to her withdrawal from the race. Ultimately, it was Maggie Coles-Lyster of Human Powered Health who emerged victorious in the sprint, completing the race in a time of 02:07:03.
Team director Jos van Emden reflected on the race outcome: “We stayed alert at the front and were able to respond to the attacks that came.” He also expressed concern for Oudeman’s well-being, stating, “Maud has been taken to the hospital for checks. She was experiencing a lot of pain around her shoulder, but we don’t know yet how serious it is. Further examination will have to determine that. Hopefully, it’s not too bad.”
Despite the team’s disappointing results, with riders Margaux Vigié (21st, +00:23), Martina Fidanza (23rd, +00:23), Sarah Van Dam (31st, +00:37), and Rosita Reijnhout (52nd, +01:42) finishing outside of the top ranks, van Emden found positive aspects to highlight: “We were active in the race right up until the last five kilometers. Unfortunately, in the finale, our riders lost each other, which meant contesting the sprint for a good placing was no longer possible.”
The Tour Down Under has proven to be a challenging start for Team Visma | Lease a Bike, but the team remains focused on their future endeavors in the cycling season ahead.
