Tulett and Uijtdebroeks fight their way into the top ten at the Giro dell’Emilia
# Tulett and Uijtdebroeks Shine in Top Ten Finish at Giro dell’Emilia
The Giro dell’Emilia witnessed an exhilarating display of cycling talent as the peloton embarked on a challenging 200-kilometer race from Mirandola, featuring several classified climbs and culminating in the steep ascents of San Luca. Despite the tough competition, Team Visma | Lease a Bike riders Ben Tulett and Cian Uijtdebroeks fought valiantly to secure sixth and eighth places, respectively.
The race’s early dynamics were characterized by a five-rider breakaway that, before reaching the critical local laps, was reeled in by the peloton, with Team Visma’s representatives strategically placed at the front. As the riders approached the San Luca climb, the group began to thin dramatically. Tulett, Uijtdebroeks, and young cyclist Jørgen Nordhagen successfully reached the summit among the leading pack, setting the stage for an intense battle.
Uijtdebroeks, known for his aggressive tactics, made multiple attempts to break clear of the pack, but his efforts were consistently countered by his rivals. However, it was on the final ascent of the San Luca that Thomas Pidcock launched a decisive attack. Only Isaac del Toro managed to bridge the gap to Pidcock, who ultimately secured victory, while Del Toro finished second.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, sports director Marc Reef stated, “The guys delivered a strong team performance today. The first key moment came on the opening ascent of the San Luca, where we had Ben, Jørgen, and Tijmen (Graat) well positioned. Cian also moved up quickly, so we had four riders in front. In the finale, Cian made several good attacks, but unfortunately he didn’t get space. In the end, both Ben and Cian gave it their all to finish in the top ten, and we’re pleased with that. They showed that their form is good, especially with the upcoming races in mind.”
The results highlighted the strength of Team Visma, with both Tulett and Uijtdebroeks finishing within striking distance of the podium, further emphasizing their readiness as they look ahead to future competitions.
