Two in a row for Kooij at the Tour of Britain
# Olav Kooij Claims Back-to-Back Wins at the Tour of Britain
In a thrilling display of cycling prowess, Olav Kooij clinched his second consecutive victory at the Tour of Britain, marking his ninth win of the season. “It’s really special to win the second stage here too,” Kooij remarked after crossing the finish line in Stowmarket.
The 23-year-old Dutch sprinter found success on a predominantly flat route, with his team, Team Visma | Lease a Bike, diligently working to control the race. Despite adverse rain-soaked conditions, they effectively managed to catch a breakaway of four riders, just a few kilometers from the finish.
“It seems like this race suits me well,” Kooij noted, reinforcing his affinity for the Tour of Britain. While the team faced challenges in today’s finale, losing some key members, Kooij adeptly navigated the course. “Compared to yesterday, we had to work harder… In the finale, we had fewer teammates left, but I was well-positioned with Matthew,” he explained.
With an impressive strategy, Kooij managed to find his own way in the closing stages, ultimately deciding to make a decisive move when he saw an opportunity. “When I saw enough space ahead of me, I decided to go all-in. Straight away I felt I was the fastest,” he said, demonstrating both confidence and skill.
Kooij’s success propels Team Visma | Lease a Bike’s season tally to an astonishing 34 wins, proving the team’s strength as they head into tomorrow’s similar stage in England. All eyes will once again be on Kooij and the top sprinters as they navigate the next challenge.
