Third for Hugo Hofstetter to start the Tour of Britain

# Hugo Hofstetter Shines on Tour of Britain Debut with Third Place Finish

Hugo Hofstetter made an impressive debut at the Tour of Britain, securing a third-place finish in Southwold, marking his first participation in the UK’s only men’s UCI stage race. The French cyclist achieved his 11th top-10 finish of the season, showcasing his signature sprinting ability as he expertly navigated the Visma – Lease a Bike lead-out train in the final kilometer.

In a close contest along the windswept finishing straight near the North Sea, Olav Kooij emerged as the fastest competitor, while Tord Gudmestad crossed the line just ahead of Hofstetter.

Reflecting on his performance, Hofstetter remarked, “It’s a good result. I was already happy to come here – I have never done this race before, and I really was looking forward to it. It was a nice sprint for me today; I was happy with the headwind. It was also a bit tricky and needed a bit of gambling, because you had to wait, wait, and wait. We waited until the last moment, and then I found myself in the wheel of Kooij.”

He further assessed his tactics, saying, “I just tried to do my best – maybe I made a little mistake at 200 to go, and I tried to follow [Alberto] Dainese and Kooij took my place, but it was still a good result today.”

As the teams prepare for the second stage on Wednesday, which will start and finish in Stowmarket, it promises to be another exciting opportunity for sprinters like Hofstetter.
