Fourth for Ethan Vernon on stage 4 of La Vuelta

# Ethan Vernon Celebrates Birthday with Strong Performance in La Vuelta Stage 4

Ethan Vernon found himself on the brink of victory on his 25th birthday, finishing a commendable fourth in stage 4 of La Vuelta a España held in Voiron, France. The day began in Susa, Italy, as the race traversed the scenic Alps before concluding in the shadows of the town’s majestic 19th-century Basilica of Saint Bruno.

“It was almost the perfect script,” remarked Vernon, who had high hopes for the day. Despite his efforts, he faced challenges in the final stretch. “Yeah, it was frustrating,” he said, reflecting on the close finish. “The guys did a good job all day riding, and then a few things went wrong in the final, but yeah, it’s racing.”

The British rider has been on a promising ascent this season, kicking off this year’s La Vuelta by securing a second-place finish in the opening stage. As he approached the finish line, Vernon strategically positioned himself behind Jasper Philipsen. However, he encountered obstacles, getting blocked by barriers on his left side. His compatriot Ben Turner from INEOS Grenadiers managed to maneuver past and clinched victory, leaving Vernon to settle for fourth place—his 12th top-10 finish in road races this season.

Reflecting on the race, Vernon expressed his determination, noting, “It makes it more annoying knowing I had the legs. I know I’m fast enough to win, and then when you don’t, it’s frustrating. It’s not like that’s the best you can do. But there are a few more opportunities left, so we’ll keep trying for those.”

With more stages ahead, Vernon remains optimistic for further chances to showcase his talents and secure a win in this prestigious event.
