Veenhoven sprints to fifth place in Copenhagen Sprint Women
In the first edition of the Danish WorldTour race, the riders were presented with a flat course. Most teams had their sights set on a bunch sprint, leaving little room for the breakaway of the day. In the three local laps in Copenhagen, Team Visma | Lease a Bike took the lead in order to bring Veenhoven in a good position. In the final kilometer, the youngster almost got boxed in, but still managed to move to the front. Behind winner Wiebes, Veenhoven finished fifth. “As a team we rode a good race. I think we can be satisfied with fifth place,” Veenhoven said afterwards.
“I lost a position in the corner, so I got a bit boxed in.”

“We had said beforehand: in the first phase of the race we save our strength and from the local laps on we put ourselves in the lead. Everyone performed their task well. Unfortunately, I lost a position in the last corner, so I got a bit boxed in. Fortunately, I was able to make up some ground after that, so that was nice. All in all, it was a good sprint.”According to Veenhoven, Copenhagen Sprint is worth repeating. “It was a super nice race. There were a lot of people along the side of the road and although it may not have been that exciting, there could have been quite a few things happening in the beginning of the race if the wind was a bit stronger.”
