Vos third in new bunch sprint Tour de France Femmes, Henderson tenth in time trial
Stage 2: Dordrecht – Rotterdam (67,9 km)
At ten o’clock this morning, the riders set off for a short stage between Dordrecht and Rotterdam. After the start, it was waiting for attack attempts. Only Audrey De Keersmaeker tried to go solo, but her attack faltered ten kilometres from the line. In the streets of Rotterdam, another bunch sprint awaited.
In the final kilometres, Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women formed a strong sprint train. The twisty finale provided some challenges, but team leader Vos was well placed. In the sprint, the 37-year-old Dutch rider only had to trail Lorena Wiebes and stage winner Charlotte Kool.
“It seemed like the lead-out lasted seventy kilometres today”, Vos said after the second stage. “A short stage like this caused extra nervousness in the peloton. The biggest task was to stay out of problems. That was difficult, but fortunately we were able to ride a nice sprint.”

Stage 3: Rotterdam – Rotterdam (6,3 km)
After a few hours of rest, the riders had to get back to work. In Rotterdam, they rode a 6.3-kilometre individual time trial. Henderson – the silver medal winner at the Olympic time trial – was the first Team Visma | Lease a Bike Women rider who left the start ramp. Henderson managed to set a strong time immediately. The 25-year-old British rider eventually finished 10th.
Moments later, Markus and Vos also started their time trial. Dutch champion Markus reinforced her classification ambitions by setting the 11th time. Vos started the time trial fifth overall. After her third place earlier in the day, she finished 17th in the time trial.
“Every second I can gain is a bonus”
Riejanne Markus
“It was difficult to compete for the win”, Markus looks back. “It was very tough. I was hoping for slightly better legs, but in hindsight I set a good time. For the general classification, I did a good job. Every second I can gain is a bonus. I am happy with how the first two days of the Tour went. The support from the Dutch public was great. Now I am looking forward to Wednesday’s stage. The stage is a mix between the Amstel Gold Race and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, my two favourite races.”
