ProTeam Jenno Berckmoes resumes the season in Norway: “Competing for the GC would be great”

From now until Wednesday, the peloton will undoubtedly ride from one postcard-like scene to another. The Arctic Race of Norway explores the Arctic Circle, is the northernmost race in the world, and is known for its beautiful lakes, glaciers, and mountains. Jenno Berckmoes will also enjoy that stunning landscape this week. After a well-deserved vacation and a training block in Italy, he begins the second part of his season in Norway. “I took a different approach this time,” he says. “Usually, I take a break after the Belgian Championship and then head to altitude training, but this time I raced in the Tour of Slovakia. I chose to train in Italy this time—Como, Lake Garda, the Dolomites… A different approach, and I’m curious to see how it will play out in the race.”

Above all, Berckmoes is eager to start racing again. “Today, a day before the Arctic Race begins, we scouted the last stage, and it’s tailor-made for me. There’s a short climb at the end, so it would be great to chase my chances there next Wednesday. The first two days will favor the sprinters, and we have Lionel Taminiaux to play our cards with. Day three will be decisive for the general classification. That stage ends with a fairly steep final climb of 7 kilometers. If I’m in top form, I should be able to hang on, but it will be touch and go, I’m afraid. If I survive it, I’d love to go for that GC. We’ll see. It will be a beautiful week regardless, and I’m looking forward to it.”
