Ewen Costiou: “Happy with the breakaway”.

I’m really happy with my breakaway on the final stage of this Sunday’s Giro d’Italia, in the company of Julian Alaphilippe. I made a big effort to catch up with the group Julian was in. I wasn’t in a great position when they went over the hump, because I was also looking after the sprinter from the ARKEA-B&B HOTELS team, Jenthe Biermans. I had a great descent, and as soon as the road got a little higher, on the uphill false flat, I was able to attack and then make the junction. But it took a lot of effort. I was then able to recover a little and when Julian came out. I set off with him. We took it in turns to give it our all, no questions asked. Julian was cheering me on, and that made me really happy. I knew that the last climb, three kilometers from Naples, was difficult, and I was dead. I knew it was going to be complicated. In any case, I feel that the sensations are coming back, and I hope that things will get better and better. There are still two weeks of racing left in this Giro d’Italia to get some good results.
