Recovery Journey Commences for Tom Pidcock Following Itzulia Basque Country Crash
Following a crash during the recon of the opening stage time trial at Itzulia Basque Country, Tom Pidcock is set to begin his recovery journey. The INEOS Grenadiers team doctor and the race’s medical team decided to take Pidcock to the hospital after the incident, causing him to withdraw from the event. Initial scans indicated that Pidcock did not suffer any fractures, and he bid farewell to his teammates before leaving the race. Moving forward, he will be under the close monitoring of the INEOS Grenadiers medical team in the upcoming days.
The race kicked off with a challenging time trial in Irun, where Ethan Hayter showcased a strong performance, leading the team to a ninth-place finish. Despite adverse weather conditions towards the end of the race, Hayter managed to secure a top 10 placement, coming in just 19 seconds behind Primoz Roglic, who emerged victorious in the stage. Following Hayter, Michal Kwiatkowski claimed the 20th spot, with Brandon Rivera and Carlos Rodriguez finishing in 23rd and 28th place, respectively.
