Matej Mohorič and Fred Wright to Lead Team Bahrain at Tour of Flanders
Matej Mohorič and Fred Wright have been chosen to lead Team Bahrain at the upcoming Tour of Flanders, the second Monument of the season. According to the team’s announcement, Matej is hoping to change his series of unfortunate results at “De Ronde,” while Fred aims to add to his previous top 10 finishes. The team will be supported by a strong lineup including Andrea Pasqualon, Dušan Rajović, Kamil Gradek, Fran Miholjević, and Matevž Govekar, with the latter two making their De Ronde van Vlaanderen debuts.
The Tour of Flanders is set to showcase the cycling frenzy in the country with a challenging 271 km course from Antwerpen to Oudenaarde, featuring cobblestones, climbs, and narrow roads that will determine the winner. Notably, the race includes 7 cobbled sections and 17 climbs, with iconic features such as the Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg that have a history of defining the event.
With favorites like Mathieu van der Poel leading the pack and the absence of other notable riders, Matej and Fred are among the dozen contenders who could challenge for victory. Sports Director Michał Gołaś expressed optimism about the team’s chances, stating, “We still have big ambitions and I hope that on Sunday in Flanders all the pieces of the puzzle will come together and finally we get the result we aim for.”
Fred Wright, the co-leader of Team Bahrain, shared his excitement about the upcoming race, saying, “Both Matej and I are in great shape and I think we can play to each other’s strengths in the final to get something special from the day.” The team is focused on riding aggressively, sticking to their plan, and anticipating moves by other major teams to secure a strong result at the prestigious cycling event.
